Goal

This intention of this site is to be a space for people collaboration in the construction on digital library of detailed answers to questions about using web applications.

Questions and answers are welcome from everyone, not only from power users, but it's expected that contributors approach this site seriously. This will be explained in more detail in the following sections.

Site Scope

While the current statement says "every question", the site has a narrow scope that have being discussed and evolved over the years. Briefly, questions in Web Appliactions SE should about

  • how to use a specific web application
  • how to do something with a specific web application

This site works fine for questions about how to do specific operations / tasks, like

how to set a filter to apply a label on incoming email messages in Gmail

This site doesn't work fine for questions that require long explanations that should include and overview of the web application and involve mulplite parts or multiple complex concepts, like

how to design a presentation including Youtube videos to be embeded in a website hosted in Wix using Microsoft Sway.

There are situations that might occur while using a web application, that might need clarification or guidance, like what to do when the web application shows an unclear error message, behaves in an unxepected way or doesn't respond. This situations might derive questions that could be a good fit for this site as well others that doesn't.

One example of a question about error message that might be a good fit for this site is a question about how to fix a syntac error in a formula.

One example situation that might not be a good fit for this site is when loading a web page, it doesn't respond. This type of questions might require troublehshooting, a problem solving technique based in trial and error which usually requires a lot of back and forth, but this site is not well suited for this type of interaction.
